Bangladesh Cricket Board has sacked Shakib Al Hasan over murder allegations

A legal notice calls for Shakib Al Hasan’s exclusion from the Bangladesh national cricket team over his involvement in a murder case and his immediate suspension.

A Supreme Court lawyer, Barrister Sajib Mahmood Alam, has served a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) seeking the expulsion of cricketer Shakib Al Hasan from the national team due to his involvement in a murder case. The notice was sent on behalf of another Supreme Court lawyer, Md Rafinur Rahman.

The notice also asked the BCB to recall Shakib from abroad to enable a proper investigation into the murder case.

The legal notice argues that since Shakib is involved in criminal proceedings, he is not allowed to be part of the national cricket team under ICC rules and calls for his immediate removal and suspension from all forms of cricket to safeguard the integrity of Bangladesh cricket and sports.

Case filed on Saturday

The murder case against Shakib Al Hasan was filed on August 22 at Adabar police station for the killing of textile worker Md Rubel. Other accused include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and 156 named persons and 400 to 500 unidentified persons.

Shakib not in Bangladesh

Lawyer Sajib Mahmood Alam told Bangladeshi media that Shakib is currently in Pakistan with the national cricket team. He also mentioned that his client has not given any specific deadline to the BCB to bring Shakib back or remove him from the team. He admitted that the newly appointed BCB team will take some time to become operational.
