Bake Off star admits serving Mary Berry cake after it fell on the floor

The Great British Bake Off star Helen Skelton has admitted serving Mary Berry cakes that had fallen on the floor.

The Countryfile presenter took part in the Channel 4 show for Comic Relief in 2014 alongside This Morning’s Rochelle Humes, comedian Alistair McGowan and actor Doon Mackichan.

In the special episode, the celebrities baked pizza, Eccles cakes and a stunning multi-tiered cake. Helen has now revealed that she secretly dropped her Eccles cakes on the floor during the technical challenge.

“When I got kicked out, they thanked me for the comedic element,” she told Ed Gamble and James Acaster on their podcast “Off Menu.”

“I dropped all my cakes and didn’t realize there were cameras everywhere. I picked them up and put them on the table. They asked if I dropped them and I said, ‘No, no, it’s okay.'”

She added: “I thought no one had seen it. But they said, ‘You just dropped it, dusted it off and then offered it to Mary.’ I wouldn’t have stuck to my lie if I had known.”

Last year it was announced that Skelton would be the face of a new documentary series about the Lake District, due to air later this year.

Lost and Found in the Lakes consists of 15 episodes in which Skelton leads a team of experts in search of valuable, lost objects throughout the World Heritage Site.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this series, filmed in my beloved Lake District,” Skelton said previously in a statement.

“It’s an opportunity to showcase the natural beauty of the area and by reuniting people with their lost treasures, we have the opportunity to share some heartwarming stories.”

The former Blue Peter presenter also returned to children’s television last year after landing a role in the 15th series of Fireman Sam.

The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Bake Off: An Extra Slice both air in the UK on Channel 4. In the US, the show is known as The Great British Baking Show and streams on Netflix.
