At least eleven civilians were killed in Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Saturday.

An unknown number of other people were injured in attacks on Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip and around Nuseirat in the center, the report said. The attacks took place while talks on a ceasefire were still ongoing in Cairo.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they could not comment without knowing exactly where the people had died.

Since the current war began following attacks on Israel on October 7 by Gaza-based Palestinian Islamist Hamas members and others, the Israeli army has repeatedly accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields for its operations.

The IDF also reported ongoing fighting in the south, center and north of the Gaza Strip.

On Friday, the Israeli army ordered residents of northern Gaza to evacuate westward toward the sea after Israeli territory was attacked with rockets from the city. IDF troops had been deployed to the area, killing fighters and destroying infrastructure, it said.

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, more than 40,000 people have been killed and over 90,000 injured in Gaza since the war began. The ministry’s figures do not distinguish between fighters and civilians.
