I tried this $5 dust removal tool – and it was faster than my vacuum cleaner
When it comes to housework, we all look for quick tricks to cut cleaning time in half. As someone who is prone to indoor allergies, removing dust has always been a bane for me. And even with one of the best vacuum cleaners, there are hidden places where dust mites like to breed.
If you have a fabric sofa, woven furniture, or other delicate lampshades in your home, it can be difficult to remove dust properly without ruining the fabric. That was until I found a quick way to remove dust buildup and dirt without having to call a professional.
In fact, this $5 tool was faster than I tried with my best vacuum cleaner and its attachments. So what is this quick and cheap trick?
A simple lint roller was the answer to all my furniture dusting problems. Usually used to remove lint and hair from clothing, they’ve now become a handy multi-purpose tool for use around the home. Not only are they great for picking up dust and dirt on the sticky sheets, but they’re also great for tackling ingrained hair (I’m looking at you, pet owners).
I simply rolled a lint roller over my fabric sofa to instantly remove a layer of hidden dust from the arms and top of my sofa. Then I ripped off a fresh strip to do the same to my cream linen lampshades, which I’ve always had a hard time cleaning properly with a vacuum cleaner. Plus, you don’t even have to take the lampshades off to give them a few wipes.
After doing this around my furniture, the dust and dirt literally disappeared in seconds – much faster than if I had done it with my upholstery brush. I was also pleasantly surprised that the fabric colors looked “refreshed” and brand new again.
So the next time you want to quickly remove dust without getting out the vacuum, be sure to include a lint roller in your cleaning supplies!
What is a lint roller?
A lint roller or lint remover consists of single-sided adhesive paper attached to a cardboard or plastic cylinder, which in turn is mounted on a central spindle with an attached handle. As you roll the roller across a surface, any dust or dirt sticks to the adhesive strips, which can then be torn off.
Designed to easily remove lint, dust, fluff, hair or other small fibers from clothing and most laundry items. However, be sure to read care labels before use as the sticky residue may damage certain/delicate materials.
