Highland overcame a seven-point deficit early in the fourth quarter to earn a 31-24 victory over Hudson on Friday at Hudson Memorial Stadium.

Casey Myser scored the decisive touchdowns, tying the score with a 10-yard touchdown run with 6:29 left and scoring the winning goal from 4 yards out with 1:04 left.

After a skin infection landed him in the hospital, Myser was not cleared to play until Friday after missing the last two weeks of practice, but he still finished the game with 144 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.

Highland quarterback Dylan Borla also returned after missing most of last year with a knee injury. Borla completed 12 of 17 passes for 147 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Evan Foust was Borla’s favorite target with nine catches for 112 yards and one touchdown.

Hudson took the lead late in the third quarter thanks to the game’s only turnover.

After Brennan Funyak ran for a 6-yard touchdown, safety John Ploskunak intercepted Borla. One play later, Hudson running back Reno Ferri ran a 33-yard touchdown sweep. Ferri finished the game with 97 yards on 10 carries.

In his first start as Hudson’s quarterback, Nathan Judy completed 12 of 20 passes for 154 yards and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Mark Salem in the second quarter.

Casey Myser capped an 80-yard Hornets drive with a 10-yard touchdown run. Jonah Kowza kicked the extra point and with 6:24 left in regulation, the score was tied at 24-24.

Hudson takes the lead after an interception; leads 24-17 after three quarters

Hudson made the game’s first big breakthrough.

Hudson safety John Ploskunak intercepted the ball from Dylan Borla and returned it to Highland’s 30-yard line.

On the next play, Hudson running back Reno Ferri charged right and ran 30 yards for a touchdown. Brad Masiella hit the PAT to put Hudson ahead 24-17 at the end of the third quarter.

8:45 a.m.: Hudson returns to the running game and equalizes to 17:17

After an exchange of blows, Hudson found his running game again and tied the game late in the third quarter. Brennan Funyak ran for a 6-yard touchdown and Masiella’s PAT tied the game at 17-17 with 1:27 left in the third quarter.

8:28: Highland opens second half with 28-yard touchdown pass and takes the lead again

Highland started the second half just the way it wanted, running eight plays for a touchdown that was capped off by a 25-yard pass from Dylan Borla to Evan Foust. Kowza’s extra point put Highland up 17-10 with 8:03 left in the third quarter.

Borla and Foust have scored seven times so far tonight.

Highland quarterback Dylan Borla pounced on the Hornets’ 12-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Jonah Kowza kicked the extra point to tie the game at 10-10 with 25 seconds left in the first half.

Borla was a good two-way threat in the half, throwing a 25-yard pass to Evan Foust to set up the touchdown.

7:35: Hudson takes the lead with Nathan Judy’s 28-yard touchdown pass

Hudson takes the lead for the first time when Nathan Judy rolls free and hits Mark Salem with a 28-yard touchdown pass. Brad Masiella hits the PAT to make it 10-3 for Hudson with 7:07 minutes left in the first half.

Judy was 4-4 on the 58-yard drive, but the drive continued after Highland was called offside on a Hudson punt.

7:25 a.m.: Hudson and Highland are tied 3-3 after one quarter

Highland will have second and sixth attempts at their own 25-yard line at the start of the second quarter.

7:22: Hudson responds with a 38-yard field goal to tie the score

Hudson responded to Highland’s first point with a 38-yard field goal by Brad Masiella to tie the game at 3-3 with 17 seconds left in the first quarter. The field goal was set up by a 37-yard pass from Nathan Judy to Mark Salem.

7:15 a.m.: Highland opens the scoring run with a 34-yard field goal

Hudson gets the ball first. Explorers get a first down but punt it away. Highland with a 17-play drive into Hudson’s red zone, but two penalties keep them out of the end zone. Jonah Kowza hits a 34-yard line drive to make it 3-0 for Highland with 2:38 left in the first quarter.
