In detail about water protection | LETTER | Letters

Having recently moved to the Las Vegas area, I fully embrace the programs and media messages regarding water conservation efforts in Nevada. I moved from the Northeast and have lived most of my life in an area with excess water resources. Since moving, I have contacted the Las Vegas Valley Water District several times to obtain a more detailed analysis of my water usage. I have had a very positive experience speaking with representatives on the phone to better analyze where I have opportunities to reduce my water usage. They have provided me with very detailed information regarding the times of day and amounts of water used, and in turn, I have reduced unnecessary water usage in my household. However, this hourly level of detail is not readily available without a phone request.

To help customers who truly want to support efforts to reduce their water use and Nevada’s water conservation programs, I would suggest that the water district consider providing customers with a downloadable or emailed copy, such as a week’s water usage chronological listing for their account, showing how much water is used at different times of the day on each day of the week. The current level of information only provides total usage per day.

Given the growing population in this region, increased water conservation will ensure the longevity of the water supply in the region.
