SALT LAKE CITY — It’s a good time to be a software developer in Utah, according to an economist. Software developer salaries in Utah are among the highest in the country.
They are rising rapidly in the greater Salt Lake area and are higher than in much larger cities.
Levi Pace, an economist at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, studies Utah’s technology economy. He said Utah has a thriving technology industry and more software developers than the national average.
He also said that software developers’ salaries range from $65,000 to $172,000.
Not only are software developer salaries high, they’re also rising fast. According to Pace, the average salary rose from $97,200 five years ago to nearly $116,000 in 2023.
However, not all tech salaries are rising so quickly, there are signs of stabilization. There was a small uproar during the pandemic when software developers were able to name their prices when it came to salaries.
Software developers now rank second on the U.S. Department of Labor’s list of occupations and are expected to experience the highest job growth over the next decade.
