What we know so far about the Blumhouse thriller “Afraid”

Blumhouse is back to scare us again with a new horror film hitting theaters on August 30. Their latest film is aptly titled Worried. Audiences should prepare to be afraid of what’s to come in this story about the real-world fear and anxiety surrounding artificial intelligence, also known as AI. So what is this film about and why should we be “afraid”?

Before we delve into what we know so far, one thing is certain: the future of AI is still a mystery, and the question of how far this technology will develop and become part of our lives can be a cause for concern. Worried explores what happens when we become too attached to AI and allow digital assistants to be part of our homes and personal lives. Giving up control of our devices could actually make us lose control, and that’s something we really should be afraid of. And that’s exactly what this Blumhouse thriller will explore. What is it about?

Curtis (John Cho) and his family are chosen to test a revolutionary new home appliance: a digital family assistant called AIA. AIA takes smart homes to the next level. Once the device and all of its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems to be able to do anything. She learns the family’s behavior and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can make sure that nothing – and no one – gets in the way of her family. When the film M3GAN were you concerned about the future of technology, Worried is about to go one step further.

Who is in the movie?

The film stars John Cho, Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, David Dastmalchian and Keith Carradine, to name a few.

What’s so scary about AIA?

In the film trailer for Worriedthere are some moments that are scary. AIA takes over a self-driving car, much to the driver’s dismay. AIA also forms a bond with the youngest child of the family (Isaac Bae), which brings some deeply disturbing moments on screen. It’s clear that AIA has a mind of her own, but it’s not at all clear what she wants…
