Girl performs JonBenet-inspired routine on “Dance Moms”

A reality competition show sparked a storm of outrage after one of the cast members performed a number inspired by the 1996 murder of JonBenet Ramsey.

Ramsey was a six-year-old beauty pageant princess who was found strangled in her home in Boulder, Colorado.
The girl’s murder has remained unsolved for 27 years, and police seem far from making an arrest.
Well, the TV show Dance Moms: A New Era is facing strong reactions after one of the young dancers was forced to read up on the tragic story and then perform a number in which she pretended to have been strangled.
“You’re going to be a glamour beauty pageant girl,” Lisa, the mother of 11-year-old Ashlan Scheide, tells her daughter in the episode, according to Inside Edition.
“That was JonBenet, but then she was kidnapped and murdered.”
In the episode, Ashlan is seen going through the routine with her dance teacher Gloria “Miss Glo” Hampton, who reminds the dancer that “it’s a really sad, tragic story.”

The coach added: “So you play this little kid who’s been showcased in all these beauty pageants, and your parents want this fame and celebrity for you – but is that what they really want?”

Miss Glo then leaves it up to mother and daughter to find out “everything” about Ramsey, which Lisa does, and even gives Ashlan timestamps of the murder investigation.
Despite the traumatic story, Ashlan is fully committed and says: “This is really not for me, but I will do everything I can to win.”
After the episode aired, one X user expressed his “outrage” over the “disrespectful” episode, while a second user asked, “Who the hell came up with the idea of doing something so tragic and despicable?”

On Reddit Dancing mothers On the reboot page, one viewer called Ashlan’s appearance “extremely disturbing,” while another noted that it “didn’t even begin to tell JonBenet Ramsey’s story.”
They added: “They could have easily held a beauty pageant without taking advantage of JonBenet’s murder.”
In the end, Ashlan’s performance earned her fourth place in the competition and probably a life of nightmares.
After being put down by her coach, she told her mother, “I know pretty much how JonBenet felt. I’m never good enough.”
