Bear star Ayo Edebiri has spoken about her directorial debut in the third season and revealed that she had “a lot of fun”.

The actor, best known for his role as sous-chef Sydney in the hit FX series, directed an episode of the new season, which will be released today (June 27) on the streaming service Disney+.

Edebiri directed the episode, presumably episode 6, titled “Napkins,” with his co-star Liza Colón-Zayas, who plays Tina Marrero.

In a new interview with Variety, the actor praised the cast and crew for their performances and support throughout the experience.

“I feel like I got a master class in acting from Liza and the other actors that were on screen,” she said. “I feel like I learned so much from our crew, our camera department… just everyone.”

“It was really fun and an honor to direct an episode that showcases everything Liza can do. I mean, not even everything, just a fraction of what she can do. She’s such a powerhouse.”

Colón-Zayas also admitted in a conversation with Variety that she felt safe under Edebiri’s direction and described her co-star’s directing style as “fearless.”

“She’s outspoken, smart and fearless,” she told the publication. “So fearless that I was watching and thinking, ‘Why can’t I just be that fearless and know that I can take those risks?’. (Edebiri) did it with ease.”

In an interview with Vogue in March, the Bottoms actress recalled the first time she had the opportunity to direct an episode of The Bear.

“When I first met (series creator) Chris (Storer), I was 21, and he said, ‘You’re a director.’ I said, ‘Mind your business, brother,'” she says.

“But then last season he said, ‘Come on set, just come on set and see what happens,’ and I thought, ‘Oh, okay. Yes. I think I want to do that.'”

In March, months before the release of The Bear’s third season, Deadline reported that the series had already been renewed for a fourth season. However, there has been no official confirmation from FX or Hulu about the future of the series.

The bear is available to stream on Hulu in the USA and Disney+ in the UK. Season 3 starts on June 27th. Seasons 1 and 2 of The Bear are now available to watch in the UK exclusively on Disney+.
