A Royse City man accused of picking up a 15-year-old girl to pay her for “sexual acts” was jailed Thursday after the girl flagged down a police officer at a gas station, police said.

Daniel Leek, 44, is charged with human trafficking and solicitation of prostitution, Royse City Police Chief Kirk Aldridge said in a statement Friday. The investigation into the case is ongoing, the police chief said.

According to the documents, Leek remained in jail Friday afternoon despite being posted on $1 million bail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

At about 3:45 p.m., the girl was on her way home from school on a back road off Interstate 30 between FM 35 and FM 548 when an “unknown male” in a white SUV – later identified by police as Leek – stopped and offered her a ride home, Aldridge said.

The girl agreed and got into the SUV. As Leek drove away, he told her he would take her to his home and offered her money if she would engage in “sexual acts” with him. The girl refused, Aldridge said.

Leek then parked at a gas station, where he said he wanted to buy a drink for the girl. After he got out of the vehicle, the girl opened the door and ran before spotting a Royse City police officer at a nearby traffic stop, Aldridge said.

Leek left the gas station while the girl informed the officer of the incident. Leek got back in his SUV and drove off until the officer stopped him and arrested him “without incident,” Aldridge said.

The girl, who suffered no physical injuries, was taken to the Rockwall County Child Advocacy Center for a forensic interview.

Aldridge said police were not aware of any similar incidents, but they had shared information about Leek, including a description of the SUV, with other law enforcement agencies.
