WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A Pennsylvania man has been charged in federal court after authorities say he met a 14-year-old Ohio girl on a dating app, traveled to meet her and then sexually assaulted her.

Soumya Rudra, 41, has pleaded guilty to having illicit sexual intercourse with a minor across state lines and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the FBI became involved on November 28, 2023, when the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office asked for assistance.

A mother reported to Wayne County officials that her daughter had said she was going to a friend’s house. Instead, she was able to trace her daughter’s phone to a hotel, the Quality Inn on East Lincoln Way in Wooster.

According to court documents, officers went to the hotel, found Rudra with the victim and took him into custody.

During their investigation, FBI agents learned that the 41-year-old had met the 14-year-old through the dating game app “Kiss Kiss.”

According to court documents, Rudra and the girl communicated for months on Snapchat. The Justice Department said they scheduled a meeting and he picked her up from her home in Shreve on November 24, 2023.

He allegedly admitted to officers that he had sex with the girl. According to court documents, he claimed the girl told him she was 16 years old and “16 is the legal age in Ohio.”

According to records, officers collected evidence at the hotel, including used condoms, erectile dysfunction medications and sexual abuse of other minors.

Rudra is scheduled to be sentenced on December 11 this year and faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
