JK Simmons remains the definitive J. Jonah Jameson, but even he was surprised how Marvel brought his character back into the Spider Man Franchise.

Speaking to GQ, Simmons looked back at some of his most popular performances in film and television, including the bombastic Spider-Man-hating Daily Bugle owner in both the Sam Raimi and Marvel Cinematic Universe timelines. In the case of his second Jameson – who appeared at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home – he revealed that “the film was in the can. I don’t even know whose idea it was. Was it Amy (Pascal) or Jon (Watts) or someone else.”Hey, we could squeeze in some J. Jonah Jameson here. I mean, why don’t we get JK and see if he does.'” However, the actor was surprised by the early decisions to change Jameson’s typical look, with the Far away from home Team explains: “Well, it’s… you know, your movie was so great and it felt like a period film and da da da da da. And that is, we’re modernizing the franchise and if he is not a newspaperman, then he is a media mogul of this and that.'”

Simmons also revealed that his MCU Jameson scene was shot very quickly, using an office rather than a stage for the character’s pro-Mysterio, anti-Spider-Man tirade. “I honestly don’t think they had time to get a wig made,” Simmons said half-jokingly, before listing a few classic Jameson facial features he wanted to keep, noting, “I want to keep the same color. I’d really like to keep the mustache, keep the cigar, keep…” I mean, it’s the same character, right? It’s the same mood.'”

I honestly believe they didn’t have time to have a wig made.

Great praise for his performance as Jameson in Raimi’s Spider Man trilogy, Simmons also played the character in both Far away from home and its continuation Spider-Man: No Way Homeand several other Spider-Man adaptations. These include not only the Spider Man 3 Video games and cartoons like The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes And Ultimate Spider-Manbut several Jameson transmitters from other dimensions in Spider-Man: Through the Spider-VerseIt remains unclear whether Jameson will appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film My friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Cartoon describing Peter Parker’s early days as Spider-Man in an alternate MCU reality.
