What you need to know for the 2024 season

Flour Bluff is back in Class 5A Division I, where they were regular regional finalists. Longtime defensive coordinator Clynt Elwood begins his first season as head coach after Chris Steinbruck was named FBISD superintendent. The Hornets’ offense features two of the region’s best playmakers: senior QB Jayden Paluseo and senior WR/DB Cameran Dickson, who committed to Vanderbilt. Elwood has high expectations for Wilson and Jones on defense as Flour Bluff incorporates an entirely new set of district opponents. The regular season will be capped off with the return of the Yorktown Showdown, pitting Bluff against rival Veterans Memorial, a game that could have district title implications.

Coach Clynt Elwood on the 2024 season

“The tradition and expectations are already set. Our guys, from our players to the coaches and staff, come in with a sense of urgency. Experience is a big word with these guys. The seniors use their experience to help the younger guys. They know the expectations as some have been on the varsity team since their freshman year. The seniors have raised the bar even higher. The new district doesn’t change anything. We respect everyone we play. Every Friday night game feels like we’re playing for a district championship. We try to work twice as hard as everyone else.”
