“Moulin Rouge” is making a tour stop at the Des Moines Civic Center this summer, and ensemble member Stefanie Renee Salyers taught Mayor Connie Boesen the famous dance.
Mayor Connie Boesen calls the Broadway Series a cultural and economic engine in Des Moines
It didn’t take more than a few minutes and a few takes before Salyers called Boesen a professional cancan dancer.
“We are so fortunate to have the Broadway Willis Series because it brings Broadway to Des Moines,” Boesen said.
The series generates about $37 million in economic activity in the city, but also offers unique shows and experiences that enrich the city’s culture, Boesen said.

“Moulin Rouge” runs at the Des Moines Civic Center until September 1, 2024. Performances are daily from Tuesday to Sunday.
