Relive the glory days of MySpace by adding a song to your Instagram profile

Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows you to add a song to your profile, and while it’s nice, it has caused everyone of a certain age to fondly remember the “glory days” of MySpace.

You can now add a song to your Instagram profile

Instagram’s latest innovation allows users to add a song of their choice to their profile. If you’re an Instagram user, you can choose any song from Instagram’s licensed music library – this is the same selection of songs that is already available in Reels.

Instagram has introduced the new feature in collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter. The singer, who landed a big hit this summer with espressouses the profile music feature to introduce her new song Taste goodThis is the only way you can hear a teaser of the new song before it is fully released.

Other Carpenter-related Easter eggs will appear when certain conditions are met. For example, search for “Sabrina” or the coffee cup emoji and the disappearing notes feature will turn light blue.

How to add a song to your Instagram profile

To add a song to your Instagram profile, first click on your profile in the bottom right of the app. Then tap Edit profile to view your profile editing options. Scroll down and you should see a Music with the option “Add music to your profile”.

Click on it and you can select a song from the list or search for a specific song. There are a few fixes you can try if you’re having trouble finding a specific song on Instagram.

Once you’ve chosen a song, you can select the 30-second clip that will be added to your Instagram profile. The default selection is usually best, but you can customize the selection to suit your tastes as you wish.

Your chosen song will now appear on your Instagram profile. Fortunately, it won’t play automatically. Visitors to your profile will have to play and pause it at will.

Help us revive the glory days of MySpace

This is a nice feature for Instagram users who want to highlight their music taste. However, for me, and probably anyone who was online in the early 2000s, it immediately brings back memories of MySpace. Some people think MySpace is better than modern social media sites, but I disagree.

MySpace was known for allowing you to endlessly customize your pages, and that included adding music. Unlike Instagram, however, music added to MySpace would play automatically, making the page annoying (at best) and unusable (at worst). So if Instagram ever enabled autoplay by default, I would uninstall the app immediately.
