The Xiamen Little Egret Folk Dance Art Center staged two shows of its dance drama Bailu Sanzhangor Three chapters of Little Egreton Wednesday and Thursday in Beijing, with almost 70 young students from the Xiamen Art School.

The performance, jointly produced by the Xiamen Little Egret Folk Dance Art Center and Xiamen Art School, offered the audience a visually stunning feast full of local ethnic characteristics.

The dance drama includes over 20 classical dance works from the arts center’s 30-year history of preserving and renewing folk and ethnic dances. The show is divided into three main chapters: the Poetic Wind Era, focusing on ethnic and folk dances, Poetic Rhythm of the Strait, highlighting the beauty of life in Minnan, and Poetic Vision of the Future, integrating elements from multiple countries to present a world of diverse, harmonious dance arts.

Minnan refers to the southern region of Fujian Province, which is characterized by its unique origin, special features and historical significance.

Formerly known as the Beijing Dance Academy’s experimental class of Xiamen folk dance, Xiamen Little Egret Folk Dance Art Center performed in the capital in April, celebrating the Beijing Dance Academy’s 70th anniversary and the unique, enduring connection between the art center and the prestigious academy.

The performances are part of the ongoing selection of plays for the Beijing exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which combines theatrical performances with online broadcasts. There will be over 80 performances in major Beijing theaters as well as online broadcasts.
