Stephen Curry’s suspicious move gives Hornets fans hope of a reunion in their hometown

Seeing Stephen Curry in a Charlotte Hornets jersey, or any jersey other than the Golden State Warriors, would probably be too surreal. He looks like one of those rare superstars who would rather end his NBA career with just one team.

However, internet users noticed that Curry had changed his Instagram bio, removing “Guard for the Warriors” and replacing it with “Olympic Champion.”

While the two-time NBA MVP probably just wanted to celebrate his success in his first and probably only appearance at the quadrennial event, his future in Golden State is suddenly in question.

Most of the speculation has revolved around whether Curry would team up with his rival and Team USA buddy LeBron James, but some Hornets fans probably have another idea: Why not Charlotte?

The four-time champion was born in Ohio but spent his childhood in Charlotte. His father, Dell, played for the Hornets and was a fan favorite even in the Queen City.

Another reason why some of the Hornets’ loyal fans still hold out hope of getting the prodigal son is because he has already hinted at bringing his talent to Charlotte.

When he was presented with the key to the city in 2022, the younger Curry said he was looking forward to finishing his career with the Warriors, but later clarified that if there was a team other than Golden State he would want to play for, it would be the Hornets.

The Olympic gold medalist was reluctant to make any promises, especially considering the Warriors had won the title just months before his statement. But a few years later, his team looks a bit of a mess after missing the 2024 playoffs and losing Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in the offseason.

Signing the future Hall of Famer could be difficult for Charlotte, as the potential roster candidate is under contract with Golden State through the end of the 2025-26 season. And if he demands a trade to his Howetown team, the Hornets may have to trade LaMelo Ball to match salaries.

Of course, this is all just speculation. Maybe the younger Curry really has no intention of leaving the Bay Area and just didn’t want his Instagram bio to be too long. Whatever the case, fans probably just want to put the heartache of the Hornets staying in the cellar behind them.
