KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – August 23, 2024 – After four months of action-packed competition, seven new champions were crowned in a thrilling final at the Haier Cup, Haier Malaysia’s domestic amateur badminton tournament.
The competition was open to Malaysians aged 18 and over and began with the State Challenge phase. This took place over 4 months in Kuching, Johor, Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Of the 1,000 registered participants, only the winners and runners-up of the respective State Challenge made it to the grand finale on August 17, 2024 in Kuala Lumpur.
The Haier Cup participants competed in four categories – men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. In addition to medals, the winners and runners-up received equipment, merchandise and cash as prizes.
Julian Thean, Deputy Director of Brand Marketing at Haier Malaysia, said: “The recently concluded Summer Olympics highlighted the importance of badminton as a form of national pride. Our brand ambassadors Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik created excitement in the country when they won Malaysia’s first medals at Paris 2024, becoming double Olympic bronze medallists. Their motivation, dedication and sportsmanship are values we want to instill in Malaysians.”
“Badminton and sports in general are a way to a healthier lifestyle that promotes positive competition and creates a sense of community, bringing people together and promoting mutual respect and sportsmanship. These aspects are in line with Haier’s commitment to create a better life together with users, guided by our goal of ‘More Creation, More Possibilities’. I am delighted that the competition has been received positively and enthusiastically by Malaysians. Congratulations to all the winners,” added Thean.
Despite not being able to participate in the grand finals, Aaron and Wooi Yik took time out of their training schedule to delight participants of Haier’s regional tournament on August 18, 2024 in Kuala Lumpur by signing autographs and posing for photos with fans.
The regional competition is an evolution of the first edition hosted by Haier Malaysia as part of National Month.
