The competition was open to Malaysians aged 18 and over and began with the State Challenge phase. This took place over 4 months in Kuching, Johor, Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Of the 1,000 registered participants, only the winners and runners-up of the respective State Challenge made it to the grand finale on August 17, 2024 in Kuala Lumpur.

The Haier Cup participants competed in four categories – men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. In addition to medals, the winners and runners-up received equipment, merchandise and cash as prizes.

Despite not being able to participate in the grand finals, Aaron and Wooi Yik took time out of their training schedule to delight participants of Haier’s regional tournament on August 18, 2024 in Kuala Lumpur by signing autographs and posing for photos with fans.

The regional competition is an evolution of the first edition hosted by Haier Malaysia as part of National Month. The winners of the Grand Finals competed against victorious representatives from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The regional tournament showcased skill, passion and sportsmanship among geographical neighbours.

In the end, the Malaysian team emerged victorious, defeating the Vietnamese team in a thrilling final.
