Instagram introduces Myspace-like feature that lets users add songs to their profiles

A new feature announced by Instagram on Thursday is reminiscent of the early days of social media.

The social media company announced that Instagram profiles will now include a music feature similar to that of Myspace in the early 2000s.

“We’re excited to announce that you can now add a song to your profile, giving you more ways to express yourself through music. Your profile song selection will remain live until you swap the song,” said an Instagram post.

Unlike Myspace, the song does not play automatically; profile viewers can decide whether the song should play or stop.

To use the feature, users can add a song by going to the Edit Profile page, where they can search for and select a track from Instagram’s library of licensed music and choose a 30-second section of the song to add.

Instagram is launching the feature in collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter. Starting Thursday, Carpenter’s official Instagram account will now feature a never-before-heard teaser of her upcoming single “Taste” ahead of her album’s release on Friday.

According to Instagram, the profile music feature is the only way to hear the song before its full release.
