Maine (WABI) – A few years ago, the Girl Scouts of Maine started a fundraiser called “Pearls of Wisdom.”

The event offers numerous networking opportunities, lunch and the chance to meet the award winner.

The award winner is a local female leader in the community who exemplifies the Girl Scouts mission.

Someone who gives girls courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place.

This year, the University of Maine women’s basketball head coach, Amy Vachon, will be honored.

“She’s just a great leader, a great role model, and for us, it’s really a way to show girls possibilities for their future,” says Mara Robinov-Moorhead, CEO of Girls Scouts of Maine. “We didn’t invent the saying, but we use it a lot: If you can see it, you can be it. Especially in areas where women are still underrepresented, it’s so important to be able to showcase these leaders so girls know: Hey, this is an opportunity for me too.”

The event will take place on Thursday, September 12th from 11am to 1pm at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The public is welcome and individual tickets are $30.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Proceeds from the event benefit Girl Scouts throughout the Greater Bangor region, which is home to over 500 Girl Scouts.
