90-year-old TikTok star Pop Watch dies after health complications
TikTok star Joe Mack Roy, also known as Pop Watch, has died from health complications at the age of 90.
Roy has gone viral on TikTok many times over the years thanks to the hundreds of videos he has posted on the app, most of which have featured his grandson, but also many other family members.
He has over 1.5 million followers on the short-video app and another 3.4 million on Facebook. His grandson Jason Roy is the main person in charge of the account, as he shoots videos of his grandfather.
On August 22, 2024, Jason announced that the 90-year-old TikTok star had died from health complications after a mass formed in his throat. He shared the news with his fans in an Instagram post.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce that my grandfather, better known as ‘Pop’, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by our family. I am so grateful to have shared 40 years of my life with him and can only hope to live to a ripe old age and wisdom like him,” he said.
“I just think to myself, how lucky am I to have had someone who had such a hard time saying goodbye? Thank you all for all your prayers. They have been heard and are appreciated more than you will ever know. Pop may not have met you all, but he loved you all.”
Fans flocked to comment to express their respect, with many grateful that Jason featured his grandpa online.
“I’m definitely praying for all of you, thanks for sharing with us,” one user replied.
Another said: “My condolences for your loss. He was funny to watch. I always laughed when he drove around town!”
“God bless you and your family… he will be truly missed,” commented a third.
This news comes just days after TikTok’s “Dancing Engineer” died at the age of 34 from complications of dengue fever.
