2-year-old girl returns home on ventilator after child nearly drowned in Aventura

ADVENTURE, Florida. – A 2-year-old girl who nearly drowned in her family’s pool in Aventura in early April returned home with her family on Thursday.

Authorities said Haleni Ezra was found unconscious in her family’s pool on August 6 after nearly drowning and was in critical condition.

Although Haleni is still on a ventilator, she is surrounded by the unwavering faith of her family.

“We have equipped our whole house… it’s like a mini hospital,” said Haleni’s father, Shlomo Ezra. “We will do everything we can to make her healthy again.”

Ezra remains hopeful and prays that his little daughter will wake up.

“Haleni is with us,” he said. “We trust that God will perform his miracle and wake up her brain.”

The community’s response to Haleni’s story was overwhelming. Prayers were held outside the hospital every week.

Ezra told Local 10’s Rosh Lowe that he saw signs of hope in his daughter’s movements and believed they were answers to his prayers.

“I’ve talked to her so many times in the last few weeks. I said, ‘Haleni, move your hands,’ and she moved them. ‘Move your head,’ and she moved it,” Ezra said.

As Ezra hugged the hospital staff, he expressed his gratitude for the prayers that continue to pour in.

“My daughter is still alive…please continue to pray for the great miracle to happen and for her to wake up and bring light into the world,” he urged.

As the ambulance pulled away and took Haleni home, her father sat by her side, confident that this was just the next leg of their journey – a journey where faith and trust will overcome all adversities and where his little daughter will one day open her eyes and see her family again.

“What would you say to those who think it might be time to take her off the ventilator since she has been on life support since early April? You would never make that decision, would you?” asked Lowe.

“Never. I think my daughter is still with us, and we are here now, going home,” Ezra said.
