NASCAR Cup drivers to watch at Michigan International Speedway

The NASCAR Cup Series faces the high-speed pace of Michigan International Speedway this weekend.

Cars reach speeds of nearly 200 miles per hour on the 2-mile track. There are still three races left before the Cup playoffs begin.

Sunday’s broadcast is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET on the USA Network.

Drivers to watch out for in Michigan

Leader

Ryan Blaney

Score: 5th place

Best result of the season: 1. (Iowa, Pocono)

Statistics for 2024: Two wins, seven top-fives and eleven top-10s. Led 415 laps and has a finishing average of 14.2.

Off to the weekend: Blaney has finished 11th or better in each of the last five races, including the win at Pocono. He has three consecutive top-10 finishes at Michigan, including a win in 2021.

Joey Logano

Score: 15.

Best result of the season: 1. (Nashville)

Statistics for 2024: One win, four top-fives and seven top-10s. Led 230 laps and had a finishing average of 17.6.

Off to the weekend: Logano has six top-10 finishes in the last nine races at Michigan. He has three Cup wins at Michigan. Last weekend at Richmond, he was on his way to victory when Austin Dillon swept him out of the way.

Denny Hamlin

Score: 4th place

Best result of the season: 1. (Bristol I, Richmond I, Dover I)

Statistics for 2024: Three wins, nine top-fives and ten top-10s. Led 896 laps and averaged 14.6 points.

Off to the weekend: Hamlin finished second at Richmond last weekend, the second time in the last three races he has finished second. He has finished in the top five in five of the last six Michigan races. Hamlin was third in last year’s race.

Martin Truex Jr.

Score: 8th place

Best result of the season: 2. (Bristol I)

Statistics for 2024: No wins, four top-fives and nine top-10s. Led 461 laps and has an average finish of 15.7

Off to the weekend: Truex finished last at Richmond after his engine failed, the second engine failure in a Joe Gibbs Racing car in the last three races. He finished second at Michigan last year, his seventh consecutive top-10 finish at the track.

QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWER

Chris Buescher

Score: 13.

Best result of the season: 2. (Phoenix I, Kansas I)

Statistics for 2024: No wins, five top-fives and nine top-10s. Led 167 laps and averaged a 14.5 finish average.

Off to the weekend: Buescher is the reigning Michigan winner. This is his only top-10 finish in the last nine races at Michigan. Buescher has not finished in the top-10 in the last four races this season. He is on the verge of making the playoffs after this week’s penalty against Austin Dillon stripped him of playoff eligibility for his win at Richmond.

Austin Dillon defends the win for Richmond, but has yet to secure a playoff spot with three races left in the regular season.

Tyler Reddick

Score: 2nd place

Best result of the season: 1. (Talladega I)

Statistics for 2024: One win, 10 top-5 and 16 top-10 finishes. Led 457 laps and has a finish average of 10.9.

Off to the weekend: Reddick leads the series in top-five and top-10 finishes. He has finished in the top three in four of the last five races this year. His record at Michigan is not as impressive. He has finished no higher than 18th in five Cup starts there. Reddick has finished no higher than 29th in the last three Michigan races.

Brad Keselowski

Score: 9th place

Best result of the season: 1. (Darlington)

Statistics for 2024: One win, seven top-fives and ten top-10s. Led 124 laps and had a finishing average of 14.8.

Off to the weekend: The Michigan native remains seeking his first Cup win at the track. He has three second-place finishes at Michigan, most recently in 2020.

Bubba Wallace

Score: 12.

Best result of the season: 4. (Martinsville I, Richmond)

Statistics for 2024: No wins, five top-fives and nine top-10s. Led 61 laps and averaged a 15.8 finish average.

Off to the weekend: Wallace comes to Michigan with two consecutive top-five finishes that have earned him a playoff spot. He has four top-10s in the last five races. His two top-10s at Michigan have come in the last five races there.
