Bioshock 4: everything we know so far

Bioshock 4: everything we know so far

When Bioshock When it was released in 2007, it exceeded all expectations. Not only did it introduce us to the unforgettable world of Rapture deep under the sea, but it also provided one of the most shocking twists in video game history. The sequel stayed in the same setting, but Infinite invited us once again to a brand new dystopia floating in the clouds. Much like Assassin’s Creed, these games were defined by their settings, which is why we all eagerly awaited the next installment to see what fantastical space we would explore. While original creator Ken Levine has moved on to Judas, 2K has had Cloud Chamber Studios working on a new entry since 2019. That’s a long time, but we still have a lot of questions that need to be answered. Could you please explore everything we know about Bioshock 4 with us?

Neither 2K nor Cloud Chamber have agreed on a release date for Bioshock 4The latest unofficial update was discovered by GamesRadar on LinkedIn. Senior Cinematic Designer Jeff Spoonhower posted the following: “The Bioshock The 2K Cloud Chamber team is growing! We have many openings across a variety of disciplines, including art, animation, engineering, design, storytelling, and production.”

This means that the game was only in the pre-production phase up to this point, so we will probably have to wait another two to three years before Bioshock 4 is completely finished.

Based on the assumption that the game will enter full production in 2024, we can safely say that Bioshock 4 will be exclusive to the current generation, i.e. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Leaks and rumors

No official trailers or screenshots of Bioshock 4 have been released to whet our appetites. However, a leaked screenshot has surfaced online that appears to show a version of the game, featuring a weapon, UI elements, and some sort of glowing turret. MP1st, who obtained the image, claims it came from a visual effects artist at 2K, who took it from a 2021 demo version. If that’s true, there’s a good chance a lot of elements have changed.

Even before this leaked shot, there were two strong rumors about Bioshock 4The most important thing to note is that the game is set in a 1960s Antarctic city called Borealis. Not much else was mentioned here, other than that the game would somehow connect the previous games in the series.

Further speculation suggests that the game will be open world, or at least was once planned to be, according to another job posting spotted by PCGamesN, which at the time said it was looking for “someone who can weave impressive, character-driven stories in an open world.” This would be a major departure from the linear structure the series has stuck to so far.

Speculations about the game

The only constant element between the Bioshock games was the gameplay. Although there will certainly be new additions and mechanics, we suspect that the core of Bioshock 4 to focus on first-person shooters and powers. What form those powers take and how they are justified in this environment remains to be seen.

Bioshock has also stuck to a linear structure, with occasional setbacks. If the leak is Bioshock 4 If it is true that it is open world, we suspect that means that the entire city – whatever it ends up being – will be fully explorable from the start and not so heavily walled off. We suspect that it will resemble the structure of something like prey instead of trying to be a huge, sprawling game.

Pre-order

Bioshock 4 is still top secret and probably won’t be ready for a few years. As soon as 2K and Cloud Chamber give us a release date and pre-order information, we’ll keep you updated.
