How much does an oil change cost at Mercedes?

A car buyer who wanted to buy a Mercedes-Benz may have changed his mind after realizing how much an oil change costs.

TikTok user @fmcontent posted a video from inside a Mercedes on August 19. In the caption, she wrote, “A salesman told me not to buy this Mercedes because the oil change costs $500. Is that true?” She added several emojis showing that she is very tempted to make the purchase.

By Wednesday afternoon, the video had already been viewed more than 85,000 times and commented on 500 times. In the comments, viewers confirmed the prices for Mercedes services and recommended alternative brands for her to consider.

Viewers confirm seller’s warning

One user wrote: “Service A is about $450 and Service B is $950, including brake fluid and filters.”

Another user said, “Service A is very different from Service B. Service B includes brake fluid service, air filter and cabin filter. Service A is just an oil service.”

Other users disputed that maintaining a Mercedes is so expensive and said owners should avoid going to the dealer for an oil change.

One user commented: “They said that about our Porsche too. So I’ll do it myself for $70.”

A second user said, “My brother has a Mercedes and gets his oil changed at Walmart for $60.”

Why does a “luxury” oil change cost more?

According to Mercedes-Benz, the cost of an oil change for one of its vehicles depends on the model and the price of oil at the time of service, but you can generally expect to pay between $150 and $450. “The cost of a Mercedes-Benz synthetic motor oil change may surprise you a little, and understandably so,” the article states.

It continues: “Your luxury vehicle usually has more than one oil pan in different locations underneath. This is because there are multiple places where synthetic motor oil can be added to your Mercedes-Benz, improving overall performance. This also means that a synthetic motor oil change can be more labor intensive. A Mercedes-Benz may also require more synthetic motor oil compared to other vehicles, sometimes up to 1-2 quarts more. All of these factors combined mean a more expensive synthetic motor oil change.”

What is the difference between Service A and Service B?

According to Mercedes, you should have Service A performed every 10,000 miles and Service B every 20,000 miles. Service A is a maintenance schedule that includes changing the synthetic motor oil, replacing the oil filter, and checking the fluids. Service B includes all of that plus replacing the cabin dust/combination filter, checking the brake components, and replacing the brake fluid. Some mechanics swear that you should also change the air filter every time you change the oil.
