Rise Eterna War, As Per My Last Email, and More Today’s New Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 22, 2024. In today’s article, we continue to witness the slow but significant decline in Switch releases in this eighth year. It’s Thursday, but we don’t have even a dozen games worth mentioning today. Even among the ones we do have, there’s nothing that stands out. Sure, it’s August. Things will pick up soon. But it’s still strange to experience such dry Thursdays this time of year. At least sales are healthy. Let’s take a look at it all!

Selected new releases

Verne – The Figure of Fantasy ($14.99)

Rise Eterna War, As Per My Last Email, and More Today’s New Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

In this adventure game, play as Jules Verne, transported to a world of his own imagination. He will team up with Captain Nemo to fight off an evil force determined to destroy any imagination, which I think would be pretty bad. Solve puzzles, engage in dialogue, and enjoy the story. An interesting premise, and that’s a big part of the struggle when it comes to this genre.

Rise Eterna War ($9.99)

A prequel story to Rise of Eternathis looks like a simple defense game to me. Build your team and use your limited resources against the enemy. Seems pretty good for what it is, even if it’s not particularly novel. With over forty levels to play, it’ll keep you busy for a couple of days at least.

According to my last email ($6.29)

One of those stress relief games. You are an office worker and you have a sledgehammer. You can break pretty much anything in the office. Give it a try. Play the ten-level campaign mode or enjoy the infinite mayhem mode as you wish. The affordable price is just right for the experience it offers.

Ring Sculptor ($14.99)

A choice-based narrative adventure where you choose from nine different characters and try to survive a journey to the Ring Sculptors’ base. In addition to the choices that must be made at various points, you will also have to manage stats, make dice rolls and get lucky and discover many endings.

Argol – Kronoss Castle ($8.99)

This is a side-scrolling action platform game in the style of games like Castlevania or Valis. You play a sword-wielding warrior on a quest to defeat evil. Or at least I assume that’s the story. All I know is that there’s a guy named Kronoss and his castle needs to be stormed. A decent game with a pretty lively soundtrack. Nothing I’d run down the street screaming for, but it might scratch an itch.

Ataraxia ($4.99)

An affordable Metroidvania-style game starring a mummy. It’s pretty rough, but for the price, you might not mind. I at least appreciate the novel protagonist. Shame about the poor collision detection, though.

Arcade Archives: The Ninja Kids ($7.99)

Taito’s 1990 beat ’em up with ninja dolls is the latest Arcade Archives release. Up to four players can join in local multiplayer, and that’s probably the best way to enjoy this game. Even when playing alone, the wacky tone makes the game entertaining. The mechanics aren’t as tight as the better titles in this genre from Capcom or Konami, but the offbeat nature of it all has its charm.

Tales from Toyotoki: Arrival of the Witch ($29.99)

Here’s a visual novel with some simulation elements. Maybe it’s not right to call it a visual novel because of these elements? Forgive me if my choice of words isn’t quite right. Your character ends up homeless on a mysterious island and soon meets a witch who has her own problems. They decide to work together and are eventually joined by several others. Can this ragtag group survive and grow on Toyotoki Island? Play to find out! I swear I should write some text for the box.

EGGCONSOLE Star Trader PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

When you think of Nihon Falcom, you probably think of… shooting games? Okay, maybe not. But this game actually existed back then, and as you might expect, it’s not an orthodox version at all. There are adventure game scenes mixed in with the shooting action, and your skill at trading determines how much money you have available for upgrades. Of course, it’s all in Japanese. EGG CONSOLE and all that. If I think it’s even remotely playable for someone who doesn’t understand the language, I’ll write a review soon.

We’ve had so many thunderstorms here lately. Hot and sunny during the day, stormy at night. Very strange and not exactly conducive to the laundry schedule. Oh well. Hope you all have an exciting Thursday and as always, thanks for reading!
