New Music Friday is upon us again! Today we have two new releases from New Zealand for you, along with three others that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Marty Duda from “The 13th Floor” selects these five new releases for you:

  1. New music on Friday: Selection of new albums from 13th Floor: August 23, 2024Louisa NicklinThe big pout (self) It is the second album by this Auckland-based singer-songwriter, who has dimmer And The Mermaids. In fact, none other than Shayne Carter is on board as a producer.”This album is a further development of what I have released before“, notes Nicklin. “There is more patience and consideration in these pieces, everything is very purposeful.” Look out for an interview with Louisa on 13th Floor soon.

2.Zed ZedFuture memory (August Avenue) 21 years after their second album, Zed finally comes with album number 3. “Being back in the studio with my musical brothers after all this time was something very special,” said lead singer Nathan Koenig. “The process of designing and refining the songs, which we were all involved in creating, brought us closer together than ever before.” And yes, be careful with Zed here at The 13th Floor … coming soon!

3.The Softies The SoftiesThe bed I made (Father/Daughter) Here is another long-awaited reunion. Rose Melberg And Jen Sbragia first came together in 1994 and released their last album in 2000. 24 years later, they sound as sweet as ever. The Softies emerged from the Riot Grrrl movement and toured with Elliot Smith in 1996. You can learn all about these exciting times in the 90s and today by watching The 13th Floor’s interview with the two members of The Softies.

4.Malice K Malice KAvanti (Jagjaguwar) malice K is a New York-based project led by visual artist and songwriter Alex Konschuh. Alex moved from the West Coast to the East, lured by a major label deal that he ultimately turned down. Now he’s here with the much hotter Jagjaguwar. AVANTI acts as a diary of the last two years of his life. The album title offers a double meaning, named after the formative alternative performing arts high school malice K and the Italian adverb that translates to English as “to move forward.” Watch Malice K’s interview on The 13th Floor to get a deeper insight into this unique artist.

5. GillianGillianGillian Welch, David RawlingsForest (Acony) Last but not least on our New music on Friday Rundown features new music from Gillian Welch And David Rawlings. Welch and Rawlings recorded their new album at their own Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville. “Woodland is at the heart of everything we do and has been for over 20 years,” the folk artists said in a press release. “We’ve spent the last four years almost exclusively within its walls, bringing it back to life after the 2020 tornado and making this record. The music is (the songs are) a whirlwind of contradictions, emptiness, fullness, joy, sadness, destruction and permanence. Now.”
