Beeville child dies after being left in hot car

BEEVILLE, TX — Beeville police and several other agencies are investigating after a nine-month-old child was found dead in a hot car.

According to Assistant Police Chief Richard Cantu Jr., it happened in the 100 block of East Flournoy Street near St. before police received the call around 4:10 p.m.

“Upon arrival, one of the officers made contact with the grandmother, who was holding a nine-month-old child,” Cantu said in an interview with KRIS 6 News reporter Alexis Scott.

Cantu noted that the grandmother called 911 after realizing the child was still in the car. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers are also assisting in the investigation.

“We have contacted the Texas Rangers to assist us in the investigation as they have the skills and resources to assist our investigators,” Cantu added.

This is not the only family facing such a tragedy. The same incident occurred near the south side of Corpus Christi on Tuesday.

Our KRIS 6 News reporter Fernando Arevalo reported that a 22-month-old child was left in a hot car outside Tom Browne Middle School. Police say the mother, Hilda Adame, forgot to drop the child off at daycare and now faces charges.

Cantu stressed the importance of remaining cautious during these hot summer months.

“In this current time and season, we need to be more aware of who is in the vehicle,” Cantu said. “When a vehicle comes to a stop or parks and you exit, you need to make sure everyone exits the vehicle.”

The child’s parents in Beeville have been notified and it is unclear where they were at the time of the incident.

No word on whether charges will be filed.
