Workers in Toledo mourned a death on Wednesday at the Stellantis plant where the Jeep Gladiator is produced.

The company released a statement about the death on Thursday, but it provided few details.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the Toledo Assembly Complex employee who was involved in a fatal workplace accident yesterday. We will continue to work with authorities to determine the cause of the accident. Out of respect for the family, we will not confirm the employee’s identity. Counseling services are available to employees of the Toledo Assembly Complex,” said the statement from spokeswoman Ann Marie Fortunate.

The Toledo Assembly Complex employs 4,679 workers at its two plants – 4,447 of them hourly and 232 permanent – according to Stellantis, which also owns the Ram, Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat brands. At the South plant, where the incident occurred, only one shift is being worked, according to Fortunate.

The complex also assembles the Jeep Wrangler.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office was scheduled to perform an autopsy. Toledo is located in Lucas County, Ohio.

The Toledo Blade reported that “emergency crews from the Toledo Fire and EMS department rushed to the facility on Chrysler Drive around 1:35 p.m.”
