Animas High School students were unable to attend class Thursday morning due to a burst water pipe related to construction on Goeglein Gulch Road.

In a Facebook post, the school announced that students were dismissed at 11:15 a.m. and the school would close completely at 12:15 p.m. because there was no running water.

Libby Cowles, dean of enrollment and public relations, said the water main issue affects both Animas High School and Fort Lewis College, but FLC has a second water system.

The cause of the problem has yet to be determined.

Families who cannot pick up their child by 12:15 p.m. should call the main office at 970-247-2474 or email [email protected], the post said.

Students not picked up by 12:15 p.m. will be taken to the Durango Recreation Center, where restrooms and access to water are available.

“The City of Durango has informed us that they hope to have water back on by 5 p.m. tonight, so we plan to resume regular school operations tomorrow. We will update you tonight if this changes,” the post said.
