Areeba said: “I am so happy that I got what I wanted. Thank you to all the staff at the school who helped me.”

“Many thanks also to my mom, dad and little sister – I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Areeba was inspired by the emergency response during the pandemic and attributes her career choice to key workers.

She added: “It (the pandemic) has really helped me understand the importance of the NHS and I want to be a part of it. Some of my family members are doctors.”

Areeba’s father said: “We are so proud of her, she works so hard. We want to thank all the teachers for their support. I am at a loss for words.”

Areeba is one of only two UK representatives of Ashoka Changemakers, the largest network of leading social entrepreneurs.

She was also involved in a changemaker group at Derby High School, which was founded with the aim of reducing the school’s carbon emissions.

Two years ago they won the BBC Regenerators Award for converting a disused school bus from Greater Manchester.
