Huntington Woods woman dies in bicycle-carriage accident on Mackinac Island

A 77-year-old Huntington Woods woman died after her bicycle collided with a carriage on Mackinac Island, police said.

The incident occurred at around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Main Street and Bogan Lane, Mackinac Island police said. The woman was riding her bicycle westbound when she collided with a car traveling eastbound, police said.

The victim suffered serious injuries in the accident. Officers took the victim to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Mackinac Island Police are not releasing the identity of the victim at this time. Police reported no other injuries or deaths in the incident.

Michigan State Police, Mackinac Island Emergency Services, Mackinac Island Fire Department, Mackinac Island Marine Rescue, Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, Island House Hotel staff, community members and visitors assisted Mackinac Island Police in arriving at the scene, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
