Cox has completed the Arizona network shown in “Every Last Mile”

Cox Communications announced that it has completed the expansion of its fiber optic network in Congress, Arizona, in Yavapai County. The project was one of three projects featured in the NCTA’s new documentary, “Every Last Mile.”

  • “Every Last Mile” tells the story of the hard work it takes to extend broadband networks to the farthest corners of the United States.
    • The film follows work crews as they lay cables through difficult terrain to connect rural communities, from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska to the arid desert of Arizona.

Connecting a former ghost town

The Congress project is the first part of a larger initiative to expand broadband in Yavapai County. Cox is also investing in network expansion in Black Canyon City, with the ISP contributing a total of $10.5 million for both projects.

The expansion of Congress added approximately 1,300 homes to the former ghost town, which was once a center of gold mining until the mines closed in the 1930s.

  • The grand opening ceremony took place in February this year. The 36-mile fiber optic network crosses difficult desert terrain, which creates harsh working conditions for the workers.
  • Residents now have access to multi-gigabit symmetrical broadband speeds as well as a variety of services from Cox Communication.
