Stephen Nedoroscik: “Dancing with the Stars” brings pommel horse guys on board

American pommel horse specialist Stephen Nedoroscik captured hearts at the Summer Olympics in Paris when he performed in the gymnasts’ team final, and soon he’ll be looking to bring that new fan base to the ballroom. In keeping with our recent Olympic suggestions, it was just announced that he will be competing in the upcoming 33rd season of the amateur dance competition series Dancing with the Stars.

Nedoroscik was known as a specialist at these Olympics: his only event was the pommel horse, so he was only named to the team to score high on that apparatus. That put even more pressure on him; the last thing you want is to have one job and not be able to perform for your team. Adding to the stress level, the pommel horse was the last apparatus for the U.S. team, and Nedoroscik was the very last gymnast to compete, so it all depended on him. But he delivered a mostly clean routine that was good enough to win his team the bronze medal, which the bespectacled wonder lifted into the air in celebration. It was the U.S.’s first Olympic team medal since 2008, and to top it all off, Nedoroscik also won the bronze medal in the pommel horse event final.

But will his gymnastic skills translate to dancing? Gymnasts have a turbulent history on “DWTS”, with Michael B. And Laurie Hernandez winning the Mirror Ball Trophy and Simone Biles, Aly RaismanAnd Nastya Lyukin and finished in the top four. But male gymnasts are inexperienced on the show, and men’s gymnastics doesn’t have dance elements like women’s. The pommel horse, in particular, is very different from a dance routine; keeping the body in a rigid, controlled position is key, so he’ll have to learn to loosen his hips on the dance floor. But like other gymnasts, he’ll have the strength, acrobatics and athletic endurance for the “DWTS” training regimen, which could give him an early advantage.

Are you looking forward to seeing more of Clark Kent, the Olympic player? Will he perform as well as he did for the US team? We’ll find out this fall.
