Remember Lost in Random? It was a 2021 third-person action-adventure game where a young girl tries to save her sister from an evil queen in a world where everything is left to chance. It was a unique concept, one with impressive style, fun gameplay with hints of deck-building elements, and an incredibly creative world that was just crying out for future games taking place in it. Well, a sequel called Lost in Random: The Eternal Die was just announced at Gamescom, and now the series has found a way to expand its world while increasing the randomness, as this new game is now an isometric roguelike action game with randomly generated levels, as seen in the announcement trailer at the link here.

Roll the bones

Without giving too much away about the first game, Lost in Random: The Eternal Die puts players in the shoes of Aleksandra, the former Queen of Random. Now trapped in the titular Eternal Die, Aleksandra and her dice-rolling companion Fortune are fighting to get through a labyrinth based on traditional board games to stop the evil Storyteller plotting her final chapter. Getting through will require all of her skills, as well as any treasures and relics Aleksandra can find inside that can give her a boost. But as the gameplay takes a roguelike turn, expect multiple attempts to conquer the labyrinth as you keep dying, returning to the Sanctuary hub each time, until you find the right mix of strategy and chance to get through… plus, this writer only just noticed the title’s pun to go along with the new genre change.

Studio Fizbin is now moving into the roguelike genre with a new “medieval punk” game called Reignbreaker, which will premiere at Gamescom.

Again, it’s a pretty notable change from the core gameplay of the first game, at least on the surface (not to mention a slight change in development, which is now generally handled by Thunderful Development after Zoink merged with them), but it definitely looks like it could be more than a worthy successor, one that still offers plenty of creative dice-based action and the unique style and wild characters that the previous games were known for. Lost in Random: The Eternal Die is coming to all major platforms next year, and then we’ll see if that extra dose of random chaos makes for another hit game.
