Last save just far enough back to tolerate disturbing interference

OMAHA, Nebraska — Sources confirm that a local gamer is reluctantly putting up with a frustrating bug because he doesn’t want to lose the progress he’s made since his last save.

“See? About half the times I press the A button in dialogue or menus, it doesn’t register,” said Phillip Mack, who played Knights of the Manderline, a new action RPG. “And sometimes it’s just laggy, so I press it again and accidentally skip important dialogue or use an item when I just wanted to read its description. It’s so annoying. Unfortunately, I haven’t saved in about three hours, and that took a lot of work, man.”

“I’m not going to do all this again just because of some annoying little problem like – shit!” Mack continued. “I just insulted an NPC for selecting a dialogue option when I thought I was just clicking through his line. He was important too. Now the whole faction is going to be hostile towards me.”

Mack’s wife Christine noted that this behavior was typical of him.

“Oh, you mean the guy who didn’t get into his dream college on a full scholarship because he had to repeat a single core course?” Christine asked. “You’re saying he wouldn’t repeat part of a game? Wow, I never expected that from the man who baked me a birthday cake without eggs because he didn’t want to go shopping again. If you think I’m making this up, just ask Katie, the woman he truly loves. Too bad he met her after he started dating me and couldn’t be bothered to start over.”

Singular Refraction, the developer of Knights of the Manderline, said they were familiar with the bug that plagued Mack.

“Oh yeah, the ‘A’ button thing,” said Ron Lambert, lead developer at Singular Refraction. “That happened a long time ago. It’s ancient. QA brought it up during beta. People always ask us to fix it. The thing is, it’s trickier than they think. The code that the bug comes from affects pretty much everything in the game. We’d have to rewrite so much of the game if we really wanted to fix that, and frankly, we’d rather not. It would be a whole thing, you know?”

At press time, Mack had decided to revert to his previous save, but accidentally overwrote it by pressing the “A” key too many times while attempting to load it.
