Dyson WashG1, the company’s first dedicated wet floor cleaner, is available in Canada today for $899.

The Dyson WashG1 is designed based on the V15s Detect Submarine. While the latter offers standard dry vacuuming features, the WashG1 features the usual Dyson innovations, all geared towards wet cleaning of floors. The device uses wet mopping technology to clean up spills and other messes.

Dyson’s WashG1 features two counter-rotating felt-covered rollers made of high-density microfibers. These rollers can tackle everything from ketchup spills to coffee and pet mud marks. Although the WashG1 is designed for wet floors, it can still pick up smaller solids, whether it’s pasta or cereal. The front roller is used to regulate and evenly distribute clean water and cleaning solution, and also picks up wet stains. The rear roller acts as a polishing brush. This roller goes over the wet surface, cleaning the area and leaving a streak-free floor.

To accommodate the water needed for cleaning, Dyson has built two water tanks into the WashG1. The top tank holds one litre of clean water. Users can add a cleaning liquid of their choice to assist (avoid harsh chemicals or bleach). While WashG1 cleans and disperses the water, it collects the dirty water and stores it in the bottom 0.8 litre tank. When you’re done, you can remove both tanks, empty them, and refill the top one if necessary.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to test the Dyson WashG1 in a demo environment. As promised, the wet floor cleaner was able to easily vacuum up smaller stains on flat surfaces like hardwood and tile. In a controlled environment, the WashG1 seems to be able to effortlessly vacuum up new stains on deep grout. While I’m still curious to see how it performs in my own home, it’s good to know that the WashG1 is designed for use in many different rooms, including the kitchen, bathroom, and hallway. With three different settings, including Boost mode, users can customize the moisture level and power when cleaning.
