Chicago’s Riot Fest announces last-minute return to its former home in Douglass Park

Chicago’s Riot Fest has made a last-minute announcement that it will return to its longtime home in Douglass Park, reversing its earlier decision to move to SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The news comes just weeks before the festival is scheduled to take place September 20-22.

The initial decision to move to Bridgeview was made after Riot Fest organizers were unable to reach an agreement with the Chicago Park District. However, the planned move was met with mixed reactions from the festival’s loyal attendees, with many fans expressing disappointment at the new venue’s distance from downtown Chicago and limited public transportation access.

Riot Fest’s return to Douglass Park was announced with a statement that hailed the “overwhelming support” of both the City of Chicago and the festival’s loyal fan base. The Chicago Park District also released a statement explaining that the return to Douglass Park was due to “demand from the community.”

“Festivals are about activating and empowering communities, and the North Lawndale community has made it very clear that Riot Fest is at home in Douglass Park,” Rosa Escareño, general superintendent of the Chicago Park District, said in the press release.

“With organizers having met permit requirements earlier this year, we are excited to work with community stakeholders and city government to welcome the festival back this year. We also look forward to an ongoing partnership with the community and organizers consistent with the Park District Board of Commissioners process.”

Fans who returned their tickets after the move to Bridgeview was announced will have the opportunity to repurchase tickets at the early bird price. Parking passes for the originally planned Bridgeview location will be automatically refunded.

Headliners for this year’s Riot Fest include Fall Out Boy, Slayer, Pavement, Beck, Rob Zombie, Sublime, Public Enemy, The Offspring, St. Vincent and Bright Eyes. Festival goers can purchase their tickets via one of the links below:
