Jets Training Report August 21, 2024

During the ball-moving phase, Rodgers and wide receiver Garrett Wilson put together arguably the best throw-and-catch play of training camp. The veteran quarterback dropped back to the Jets’ 35-yard line and threw a perfect 55-yard pass in the air to Wilson, who beat CB Nick McCloud for the touchdown. The Jets’ offensive line provided strong protection against a talented defensive front all afternoon, and Rodgers was aided on his long touchdown throw by LT Tyron Smith’s knockdown block of edge rusher Brian Burns.

The Green-Whites ended the practice with a situational phase. The offense was trailing 19-14 with 58 seconds left in the second quarter and started at their 49-yard line. Rodgers initially led his unit down the field in six plays and found WR Allen Lazard on the back line of the final quarter as time ran out.

While Rodgers led a methodical attack, QB Tyrod Taylor needed two plays against his former team. After an incomplete pass to WR Jason Brownlee, Taylor went right back to the second-year wide receiver for a 51-yard touchdown.

“I love watching Aaron go through those two-minute periods,” CB DJ Reed said. “It’s like he’s just out there playing catch and it’s really exciting to watch him do what he does.”

In the first period, a red zone period that began at the Green & Whites’ 20-yard line, four-time MVP found RB Breece Hall in the seam for a touchdown behind the safety. Rodgers would have had two more red zone scores if not for a couple of drops.

In the next third, Rodgers and Wilson managed to make two chunk plays. The future Hall of Fame quarterback rolled to his right and threw a pass over the Giants’ linebackers to Wilson, who found a weak spot in the coverage. Five plays later, Wilson made a sliding catch over the middle for a first down.
