Chris Jones’ energetic bluegrass interpretation of Tom Paxton’s story of life on the rails, “The Last Hobo.”
It features the same top-notch lineup of instrumentalists as The Last Hobo, including two award winners, banjoist Kristin Scott Benson and violinist Deanie Richardson, along with acclaimed mandolin player Darren Nicholson, bassist Nelson Williams (Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, New Dangerfield) – and Jones performing as both player and singer.

It was a great honor to be able to participate in the Bluegrass Sings Paxton project both as guitarist in the studio band and as vocalist on ‘The Last Hobo’.‘,” says Jones, whose 2022 IBMA-nominated “Riding The Chief” underscores his own affinity for the rails. “I was immediately drawn to this song, which struck me as a classic Tom Paxton song about travel and lost love. It’s the kind of song that practically sings itself. Plus,” adds the award-winning humor columnist, “I’ve always wanted to sing a song that mentions Tucumcari, New Mexico.”
