2024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Picks and Tips (7 Fast Facts)

2024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Picks and Tips (7 Fast Facts)

Summer is coming to a close and that means the end of the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross National Championship Series. The final round takes place on Saturday at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Most positions in the standings are settled or nearly settled, so it’s difficult to predict how long each rider will be willing to hold out before the SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs begin. With that caveat in mind, let’s get into the 2024 Ironman Motocross fantasy picks for RMFantasyMX.com players and anyone else looking for a fantasy boost.

024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Tips and Tricks: Hunter Lawrence024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Tips and Tricks: Hunter Lawrence
Hunter Lawrence.
  1. Hunter Lawrence is motivated to achieve his first overall victory. Lawrence is not shy, which shows how much he wants his first win. Lawrence has nine podium finishes in 2024, but he has yet to claim the overall win. Lawrence’s other motivation is that he wants the maximum 50 points, just in case series leader Chase Sexton gets into trouble. Sexton can play it safe and still easily take the title for the second time in three years. With that in mind, Hunter Lawrence is worth betting on for his first overall win at the AMA Pro Motocross National.
024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Tips and Tricks: Chase Sexton024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Tips and Tricks: Chase Sexton
Pursue Sexton.
  1. Sexton won’t have to work hard to win the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross National Championship. Sexton has already secured the top spot in the 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs, so that’s done. Sexton only needs 22 points to win the Pro Motocross series if Lawerence goes 1-1. That means a P2 finish in either race for Sexton, or something as mundane as two P11 finishes. Sexton hasn’t finished a race worse than P6 all year, so things are looking good for Sexton to reclaim the top spot and enter the SuperMotocross series healthy. Even a risk-averse Sexton will be fast enough for P2 at Ironman Raceway.
024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Tips and Tricks: Aaron Plessinger024 Ironman Motocross Fantasy Tips and Tricks: Aaron Plessinger
Aaron Plessinger.
  1. Aaron Plessinger is Mr. Third. Plessinger has finished third in four of the last five races and third overall in the previous two rounds. In the SuperMotocross Series standings, Plessinger is seven points behind Justin Cooper, so Plessinger will want to make up that. It might even motivate Plessinger to beat the cautious Sexton, so there’s an opportunity here to try your luck if you want to make up points. For me, Plessinger is back in third place.

^ “Justin Cooper”.
  1. Aaron Plessinger will be looking to overtake Justin Cooper and secure fourth place in the SuperMotocross standings, and Cooper will try to keep him at bay. A P4 overall should be enough for Cooper to maintain his seven-point lead over Plessinger in the SuperMotocross standings, so Cooper will lock in that spot at Ironman Raceway. The big caveat to a P4 pick from Cooper is that he’s struggled recently; he’s put together a streak of 3-7-4-7-20-4 over the last three rounds. Cooper failed to put together two top-five motos in three Nationals prior to the Ironman finale, despite being in the top five once in at least one moto per round. That’s enough for me to put Cooper in P4.
Jason AndersonJason Anderson
^ “Jason Anderson, the first man to wear the mask”.
  1. With two P5 finishes in a row, Jason Anderson has secured a place. Anderson’s two possible contenders for the final top-five position are Dylan Ferrandis and Eli Tomac. While Ferrandis has three top-five finishes in the 2024 Pro Motocross season, Anderson has six top-five finishes, so Ferrandis has an outside chance. Tomac went 4-11 last week in his 2024 Nationals debut. Will he want to go for a top-five finish when the World Supercross Championship Series beckons? I don’t think so. If Tomac gets two good starts, he could be in the top-five overall. If not, then don’t expect Beast Mode at Ironman Raceway. That means P5 for Anderson.

Tomac, Eli.
  1. RMFantasyMX likes to make the Wild Card a tough affair – this week it’s P12. You never know that far down the rankings. Drivers to consider include Romain Pape (12-13 last week) and Freddie Norén (11-12 in the last two rounds). Other drivers who have finished a race within a position of P12 in the last two weeks are Phil Nicoletti (twice), Eli Tomac (!), Marshal Weltin, Cullin Park, Grant Harlan, Harri Kullas and Shane McElrath. Pick one and hope for the best. I’m tipping Norén as a P12 wildcard.
