EastEnders was taken off the air as part of the recent BBC schedule restructuring, and a one-hour Lucy Beale special was planned

EastEnders will air on Thursday (April 18) and an episode of Garden Rescue is scheduled to air instead. However, fans of the BBC soap won’t miss any drama as the show will air on Monday and Tuesday as usual, with a longer hour-long episode airing on Wednesday (April 17).

However, it is currently unknown whether the BBC One schedule restructuring is to accommodate a 60-minute EastEnders special or whether the show will be broadcast in two separate episodes, one after the other.

However, the latest spoilers from Walford make it clear that the Beales are preparing for the 10th anniversary of Lucy’s death on Wednesday. As soap fans will know, Lucy was accidentally killed by her younger brother Bobby Beale on April 18, 2014, and next week her family will come together to remember the character.

It’s Cindy Beale’s first anniversary with her family since her daughter’s death, after she returned to Walford last year. In the coming episodes, Peter and Ian bring family and friends together to remember Lucy, but Cindy struggles as she misremembers things and is reminded of how much of Lucy’s life she missed while she was away.

She flees the gathering and goes to see her ex-husband George Knight at the Boxing Den. But George is also suffering from his own grief after his adoptive mother Gloria died of a heart attack on Thursday.

George’s turmoil continues

The former professional boxer faces even more trouble at the hands of his adoptive father Eddie. George fails to reach his estranged son Junior to tell him the news about Gloria before he gets a call from Eddie in prison.

Eddie asks his adopted son George to meet him to talk about his wife Gloria, but a brutal showdown ensues as the two exchange harsh words. Eddie forbids George from attending Gloria’s funeral, and a distraught George deals with the news by returning to the underground boxing club.

He is stopped by his buddy Phil Mitchell, who begs George not to fight. George doesn’t listen and is eventually knocked out. After sleeping off his hangover with Phil, he wakes up battered and injured.

When he returns home, Elaine Peacock is horrified to see George and his shocked daughters Anna and Gina, but George lies and tells him he was mugged.

Later, George tries to attack Eddie, but is thrown back into a spin again by a recoil.

Elaine decides not to intervene when George storms off, but Cindy is deeply concerned and confronts Phil to find out where he is going.

Phil and Cindy arrive at the boxing club and find that the bouncers are refusing to let George in. Cindy takes him into the boxing den to talk to him.

Also in this episode, Jay struggles to come to terms with the news that Nadine is pregnant and decides to tell his loved ones. There are also devastating scenes for Yolande Trueman as she is sexually abused by Pastor Clayton.

EastEnders continues on Monday 15 April at 7.30pm on BBC One.
