News from Chennai: ‘Will eliminate differences in the name of caste and religion’, TVK chief Vijay unveils party flag

Actor and politician Vijay unveiled the flag and symbol of his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Chennai on Thursday as the star actor plans to contest the state elections scheduled for 2026.

“We will always honour the fighters who fought and sacrificed their lives for the liberation of our country and the countless soldiers who fought tirelessly on Tamil soil for the rights of our people… I will eradicate differences in the name of caste, religion, gender and place of birth, raise awareness among the people and fight for equal opportunities and equal rights for all. I solemnly affirm that I will uphold the principle of equality of all living beings,” the pledge states.

He added, “I know you all are waiting for our first state conference. Preparations for it are on and I will announce it very soon. Before that, I unveiled the flag of our party today. I am very proud… We will work together for the development of Tamil Nadu.”

In a press release issued in Tamil on Wednesday, the actor said, “It is a great blessing when every day represents a new direction and a new force in history. August 22, 2024 is the day that God and nature have gifted us as such a blessing. It is the day on which the flag, the main symbol of our Tamil Nadu Victory Club, will be introduced.”

“In the service of the welfare of Tamil Nadu, tomorrow at our headquarters we will unveil our hero flag, the Victory Flag, which will become the symbol of our state, and sing the Association Flag Song. I am happy to announce that we will be hoisting the Association Flag.”

Actor Vijay entered politics and announced the name of his party – Tamilaga Vetri Kazham – in February this year.
