3-year-old child dies after being pulled from pool in Toms River: police

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A 3-year-old child died Wednesday night after being pulled from a backyard swimming pool in Toms River, police confirmed.

The child was given CPR en route to Community Medical Center, but did not survive, police said.

Multiple radio scanner sites reported that Toms River police blocked intersections along Route 37 between Fischer Boulevard and the hospital while the child was being transported.

Fire Chief Travis Veth was on the scene within 30 seconds of the 911 call, Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little said, and paramedics from RWJ Barnabas Health also responded.

Brick Township EMS took the child to the hospital, Little confirmed, as RWJ Barnabas paramedics arrived in an SUV and were not equipped to transport him while continuing CPR.

The Ocean County District Attorney’s Office is leading the investigation, police said.
