CALDWELL, Texas (KBTX) – Caldwell enters his second year under head coach Sean Witherwax and the Hornets are looking for their first win since 2021.

After more than two years without a win, the Hornets are desperate to get back on track and they feel like they’re on the right track. The team is more experienced and has improved over the last year under Witherwax at the helm, especially on offense.

“We’re really excited about our offense,” Caldwell head coach Sean Witherwax said. “We have a quarterback that was probably 85 percent of our offense last year. We have a kid that went to another school last year who came back and wanted to be a part of it and can be a difference maker for us. With some weapons on offense, the ability to move the ball and control the game a little bit, I think it’s going to be really exciting,” Witherwax added.

“Our offensive line is the oldest group,” explained veteran offensive lineman/defensive lineman Preston Supak. “We have four seniors and one will be a junior, so that’s going to be a big part of it,” Supak added.

“Last year our team was very young,” explained veteran offensive lineman Landon Barnes. “We didn’t have a lot of seniors. Being older motivates us a little more. Now we’re not so young,” Barnes added.

“We’re really hungry,” senior linebacker Josh Wilson said. “We’ve been trying to get a win the last three years and it’s tough. We’ve just worked hard,” Wilson added.

Caldwell opens its season on August 30th away at Crockett.
