Tall Juan and Mac DeMarco release new song “Talking To Myself”: Listen

Tall Juan prepares the release of his new album Raccoon Nights. The New York-based indie musician released “Dark Hole” last month and today he’s back with the lovely Mac DeMarco collaboration “Talking To Myself.”

“In those moments when you can barely get out of bed and need the support of friends, it’s easy to get caught up in your own thoughts and convince yourself that no one wants to hear about your problems,” Tall Juan said in a statement. He continued:

This mindset can make it increasingly difficult to seek help or find someone to talk to. Sometimes all it takes is a phone call to get out of this situation.

For this song, I needed a friend to sing with me and create a dialogue through the music. I turned to my friend Mac and singing together helped bring the whole concept to life.

In our music video, directed by Dana Greenleaf, we wanted to portray the experience of sleep paralysis – the feeling of being immobilized and trapped. We incorporated the idea of various cultural demons associated with sleep paralysis, but we created our own version. As a Butoh fan, I wanted our performance to reflect the expressive, haunting quality of Butoh dance.

Earlier this year, DeMarco also collaborated with Ryan Paris and Cassie Ramone and performed at Coachella with Lil Yachty. Watch the “Talking To Myself” video below.

Raccoon Nights appears on 6.9.
