Locust Grove users are asked to stop using water immediately

Locust Grove water users were asked to stop using the water immediately.

At approximately 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, the Rapidan Service Authority (RSA) asked users of the Wilderness Water Treatment Plant to immediately cease water use, including water being used for any reason. The Wilderness plant serves users in the eastern part of Orange County, including the neighborhoods of Lake of the Woods, Wilderness Shores, Somerset Farms, Edgewood, Germanna Heights and Twin Lakes, and along the Rt. 3 corridor.

RSA Director General Tim Clemons said the warning was issued as a precautionary measure.

“We’ve had several calls from customers complaining about a strange taste in the water,” he said. “Our employees say the primary treatment tank for raw water at the water plant smells like a petroleum product.”
