Mariners are top target for rival superstar to strengthen the necessary offense

The Seattle Mariners could strengthen their middle lineup with a little more firepower this coming offseason.

Seattle has one of the best starting lineups in baseball and is only one or two offensive players away from being considered one of the top contenders in the American League. If the Mariners can make a splash in free agents this winter, they could make a big impact this year.

The chances of them making a big move are pretty good, and Mark Feinsand of MLB.com mentioned them as a possibility to sign superstar hitter Alex Bregman from the Houston Astros.

“In Bregman’s breakthrough 2018-19 seasons, he averaged 36 home runs, 108 RBIs and a .970 OPS, finishing in the top five in AL MVP voting both years,” Feinsand said. “He hasn’t matched those numbers since, although he continues to be one of the more productive third basemen in baseball. Bregman’s platform year got off to a slow start (.206 average, four home runs and a .589 OPS in his first 51 games), but he has improved since late May, posting a .302 batting average with 15 home runs and an .894 OPS in his final 65 games.

“The Astros have talked about extending Bregman’s contract, but with free agency looming, he should test the market. Possible candidates: Astros, (Arizona Diamondbacks), (and) Mariners.”

Bregman could be exactly what the Mariners need. They are certainly familiar with him having faced him in division battles several times over the years. A move would give the Mariners a good chance to compete for a World Series title and also weaken arguably their biggest rival. A move for Bregman would be a win-win situation and should be seriously considered.
